Is something holding you back from doing video? Would you love to do video but aren’t sure of yourself? Or have you tried video and felt a little uncomfortable?

I get it.

I felt the same way when I first started doing video. I’d think, why is my voice so weird? What is going on with my hands? Guys, I am a serious hand talker! Everybody has these thoughts, and eventually, I learned to stop getting in my own way.

On today’s quick tip, we’re going to overcome the fear of doing videos for your real estate marketing!

#1. Motivation Fuels Confidence

First, why do you want to do video? You need to discover what your motivation is. Doing video because “everyone is doing video” is not a compelling enough reason to get you excited about doing video.

You need a strong reason that will motivate you! Attracting new clients and creating better experiences for your home buyers and sellers might be your why and end goals.

When you have a goal you’re working towards, you’ll be more likely to show up, and your determination will evolve into confidence.

Your mindset is the most crucial piece to a successful video.

To help you better plan for your next video, I’ve created a very useful worksheet. It will guide you through the elements you need to make a great video. Click here to download the “Easily Create Strategic Videos for Your Real Estate Marketing Worksheet.”

#2. Lead With Purpose & Passion

What is the purpose or goal of the video you want to shoot?

Your end goal should directly correlate with the topic of your video. Let’s say your end goal is to attract more homebuyers in a particular farming area. The topic of your next video might be “3 tips every savvy homebuyer needs to know in XYZ neighborhood.” Would this topic fire you up?

I guarantee that if you’re passionate about the topic of the video, you will be more natural and confident on camera. It’s hard not to get swept away in someone’s message when you can feel their excitement.

I know this is true from my own personal experience. I love real estate marketing and being able to talk about a topic that I’m so passionate about shows on video. The same can go for you!

#3. Set Yourself Up for Success

Next, you need to prepare. Preparation alone will make you feel more confident if you’re nervous or unsure of yourself.

Take time to either write a script to use as a basis or a comprehensive outline of what you’re going to cover. You’ll be less likely to stumble around if you already know what you’re going to say. It’s been my experience, working in a video studio with real estate agents, that those who take time to prepare, no matter how nervous they are, always do better.

Keep in mind, no matter the end product of the video, your experience shooting will have a great impact on the likelihood of you doing videos in the future.

#4. Practice in a Casual Setting

Practice by filming yourself on your phone. You can film little videos talking about anything and then just delete them. There’s no pressure. Start small.

Next, you might want to start filming a few video messages and sending them to your friends and family.

Would it make you nervous to ask your spouse to pick up something at the store? Or maybe even invite a friend out to lunch? Why not send them a video with that message instead?

You might even mention to your friend that you’re practicing doing video. I bet if they’re your friend, they’d be supportive too! We all want to root for each other.

If you practice in this casual style in addition to videos you want to film for your marketing, video, in general, will become less of a big deal.

    #5. Let Go

I give this one to people all the time and even have to remind myself of - you just have to let go.

Let go of the self-doubt. Let go of the criticisms you have about yourself on film. Let go being worried about what other people might think.

    Just let go.

Laugh it off if you have. You can absolutely do video. What’s the worst that happens, you delete the video? What’s the best that happens, you’re able to crush that goal!

    Embrace The Evolution

We’re never good at anything when we first start. I know that over time this podcast will get better, and I’m excited to see it improve. Recognize and be grateful for that evolution!

You can overcome the uncomfortable. You can put yourself out there. I believe that you can be successful with video for your real estate marketing. You just have to as well!  And be sure to grab my Strategic Video Framework to help you reach your goals through video!
